Who is "ASHIR" (rich)? One who is happy with his lot.

I don't remember the original source for this - I heard it at a Parsha shiur given by Rabbi Y. Landau in RBS. I thought it was inspiring..... I want to share this small part of it with you with a few of my own thoughts.

We may have heard the saying "Who is rich? He who is happy with his lot". This is a concept which can be explained the following way:
Lets take the hebrew word for "his lot" Which is "Chelko"
This word consists of 4 hebrew letters, which we can derive the following from each:
Chet > CHAM(hot)
Lamed > Lach(humid/damp)
Koof > Kar(Cold)
Vav > VeYavesh (and dry)
These are 4 extreme weather conditions.
All of which may evoke certain feelings.

OMG, Its so hot out.
Its humid and yucky.
Uch, its too cold.
I am so dry...I can barely breath.

When weather is perfect, like in Jerusalem, it is an easy task to be happy.

The idea is that in our every day lives we may, at times, feel like things aren't going our way, When the HEAT is on you. Or maybe when you are feeling under the WEATHER? or was someone acting really COLD to you.
It is at times like these when we must put our efforts to remain happy.

It is not an easy task - but the reward is great.
The person who is successful with this will ultimately be Rich.

So who is rich?
Someone who is happy with "his lot" - with"Chelko" .
at times of Heat, Cold, Wet or Dry.

Good Shabbos,
