How to Experience Israel

Traveling in Israel can be frustrating if you don’t know your way around. Sure there are an unlimited number of great sights to see, but without a deeper explanation, they might feel empty.

Every traveler should have a purpose or goal. One goal might be just for the sake of having fun and relaxation. Another might be to learn about history or inspire a spiritual awakening or awareness. Whether you are a tourist from outside Israel or a resident, there is one goal that is common to every Jew, connecting with our homeland. That includes learning about both ancient and modern history as a people and as a nation/country. Maybe even more importantly it includes our relationship to the Torah and the significance our land plays in that relationship.

For all Jews, secular, reform, conservative, orthodox and other, traveling in Israel is not like traveling in another country. Each Jew feels on his own level a connection to the land and its people.

There is no doubt that having a tour guide will enhance your exploration of Israel. A guide knows more than just where to go and how to get there. They can explain details and secrets you might never have learned otherwise.

There is another way you may never have considered. Experiencing Israel with all five senses will engage all your faculties in this getting to know you process. Just like getting to know a good friend or partner, learning about the land of Israel and its creator takes time and a true pursuit on your part.

Besides the traditional sites including the kotel, machpelah, other kevers, masada, ein gedi, the dead sea, museums, botanical gardens, walking through the old city, tunnels just to name a few, there are many other places and experiences in eretz yisrael waiting for you.

You can be assured that after truly experiencing Israel, you will come to realize the real reason for the dispute over Israel’s right to exist. It is part and partial to the reason the Jews have a right to exist. The land and her people go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other.

It’s time to come home and really get to know who you are and where you really do come from.
