Why Business Articles are Like Money in The Bank with Compound Interest
Why Business Articles are Like Money in The Bank with Compound Interest
.
.
I noticed something this week which in my mind had gone "under the radar" for quite some time now: business articles are just like money in a bank account. They can show initial results now but they really "accumulate" interest in the long-term!
.
I have been business blogging for approximately six months now and have gotten to the point where 70% to 80% of my new clients contact me as a direct result of my blog articles. It's been a rather unexpected, though pleasant surprise.
.
What I wasn't noticing however is that articles written months ago and forgotten by me were not entirely disappearing as I had believed they might. "Gone and forgotten" was actually "out of sight but not out of mind."
.
Yesterday my newest client contacted me with a job. She instantly told me that she had read one of my postings, that which she stated was the impetus for contacting me. I asked her which article she was referring to, certain that she would mention one of the newer ones. To the contrary, she mentioned one which I had written well over four months ago. I was taken aback. The article which had approximately 80 views when it was replaced on the front page of the site where I choose to host my blog (www.jobshuk.com) now had well over 1,000 views. "How?" I wondered. I have gone back and checked most of the fifty-or-so articles in my archive and have found, much to my surprise, that instead of simply languishing away, as I believed they were doing, they were in actuality increasing in views at an exponential pace.
.
So what have I learned? Simply that writing blog articles to attract customers to one's business is like having a savings account in a...
.

.
You deposit an article in the account and wait. You will see interest in it up front, in terms of views, but the main interest, the big payoff so to speak, occurs later on when search engines and social bookmarking sites where you place it pick it up. That's when the action begins. That's when it starts its journey throughout cyberspace and people far and wide have access to it!
.
I have learned much in my six months of blogging. I'm no expert I'll admit. I have no formal educational background in business. Everything I have learned has been a result of trial-and-error. But what I have learned can be summed up with the following:
.

.
1) Business articles/blog articles are an incredible way to attract prospective customers. And…they are free! In terms of cost-effectiveness, nothing can beat a blog!
2) Business articles and search-engines have a magnetic attraction.
3) Prospective customers love finding tips, advice and a bit of "how-to" information in blog articles. Don't offer too much however…providing a do-it-yourself manual negates the need for customers to hire you!
.
4) Blog articles need strategically placed links to direct readers to the articles and to you. Never just post an article and stop. It's like telling strangers you are having a party and not giving them directions to your house. They'll never find it. If readers who are prospective clients can't find it, they won't read it. Place url links out there. Bookmark your articles. Ensure that they will be found and read.
.
5) Blog readers love being informed, educated and entertained. Give them something interesting to read and keep them coming back.
.
6) Blog readers like visuals, so stick a few pictures or video clips in if relevant or applicable.
.
7) Always include a sales-pitch somewhere in the article. It can be done overtly or covertly. If you are a millionaire and are writing just for the sake of writing, feel free to skip this step. But if you are blogging to attract business, it is essential. Never give your readers an "easy-out." Getting them to read is like hooking a fish. Now reel them in! Tell them how and why they should consider doing business with you! Include a link to your website, portfolio, and/or profile.
.
8) "Tweet" about your newest postings. I'll be the first to admit, I hate Twitter, but it works. You will probably find that each "tweet" brings 5-10 new hits.
.
9) Blog regularly and consistently! 1-3 hours/week should be more than enough to sustain your blog. Keep in mind that most bloggers stop completely after three weeks.
.
10) And never forget…each article is like money in the bank. The payoff will continue even after you have forgotten what you wrote. That's interest!
.
.
Wishing you business success and happy blogging! And as always, "Thank You" for taking time from your busy schedule to read what I have written!!
