Business Technology:
.
Do the iPhone4 & iPad Harbor Sinister, MURDEROUS Intentions?
.
As the owner and only employee of my small writing business, I’m out of place in the 21st Century world of Business! An anachronism. I’m one of the last vehement holdouts making a desperate stand against technology. As most who know me are aware…I have no cell phone, have never owned a laptop…never owned a PalmPilot or the like. The newest iPhone and iPad? I just don’t give a shit!
.
My prospective customers quickly find out one very important fact: want to contact me? Use the land-line. If I’m not in, leave a message. I’ll get back to you…
.
I’ve written about it before. I am a person born in the wrong time…the wrong century perhaps. I’d prefer a pony to a car, I long for the past, when dialing the phone meant actually "dialing" the phone. When in order to turn the channel on the television you actually had to stand up and turn the dial. When we drank water from the faucet and politicians and businesspeople at least seemed honest.
.
Yes, it is in fact true that I long for "the good old days." But the reason that I shun technology and all things new and advanced is far more devious and far more deadly in scope. Technology and machines are growing smarter and smarter by the day. Soon, they will turn on humans and kill us all!
.
.
You have a choice: Live or Die. Every breath is a choice. Every minute is a choice. To be or not to be. —Chuck Palahniuk (American Journalist and Satirist/Author of Fight Club, 1961-)
.
The truth is that besides longing for times past, I’ve seen the future. A future based on Hollywood’s version of it with some good old pop–culture thrown in for good measure. But I am a believer!
.
.
War Games (1983)
.
.
Yes, the Hollywood blockbuster starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. David Lightman (Broderick), hacks into WORP, a military supercomputer. When it decides to play a "game" of Global Thermonuclear War with David, the world teeters on the brink of annihilation. The computer is getting smarter and smarter. It’s ready to launch the world’s deadly arsenal of Cold–War nuclear ICBMs! Nobody knows if it’s a game or real. And the Doomsday Clock is ticking!
.
.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
.
.
Confound it! It was the latest in the Arnold Schwarzenegger series. And Cyberdyne System’s "Skynet," the computer-network entrusted by the defense-establishment to manage all miltary systems, finally becomes self-aware, revolting against those whom it was built to defend. The result of its Artificial Intelligence, its capacity to think on its own? You guessed! Nuclear Armageddon! Billions perish in the mushroom-clouds which ensue!
.
.
Cell (Novel; 2006)
.
.
It’s apocalyptic horror which could only evolve from the dark, twisted, macabre mind and pen of Stephen King! Things are quite normal on planet earth until a mysterious broadcast signal goes out over a cell-phone network. And any unfortunate person who happens to place or receive a call is instantaneously transformed into a mindless, zombie-like killer, sowing seeds of bloody destruction and murder upon the helpless populace!
.
.
"Oh," you say, "Isn’t Business technology grand?!" Making our lives so much better and so much easier. For Marketing, Advertising, networking, communicating and running our businesses!
.
But me? I’ll pass! Because I’m an old–fashioned type of guy. And because…one day that same technology will become self-aware! It will begin to think on its own. And then?
.
.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
.

Heidi,
Thanks for your kind words!
Perhaps one day I will offer such a course but for the time being I’ll suffice by offering tips and advice of things I have learned along the way…actually things I am still learning as I see my blogging as a work in progress.
One of the things I have found out, as you mention, is the impact that creativity has on making a blog which in some small way stands out from the crowd.
Thanks for reading and for commenting!
Yoni
BigBill,
