Business Technology: Do the iPhone 4 and iPad Harbor Sinister, Murderous Intentions?

.

Business Technology:

Do the iPhone4 & iPad Harbor Sinister, MURDEROUS Intentions?

.

As the owner and only employee of my small writing business, I’m out of place in the 21st Century world of Business! An anachronism. I’m one of the last vehement holdouts making a desperate stand against technology. As most who know me are aware…I have no cell phone, have never owned a laptop…never owned a PalmPilot or the like. The newest iPhone and iPad? I just don’t give a shit!

.

My prospective customers quickly find out one very important fact: want to contact me? Use the land-line. If I’m not in, leave a message. I’ll get back to you…

.

I’ve written about it before. I am a person born in the wrong time…the wrong century perhaps. I’d prefer a pony to a car, I long for the past, when dialing the phone meant actually "dialing" the phone. When in order to turn the channel on the television you actually had to stand up and turn the dial. When we drank water from the faucet and politicians and businesspeople at least seemed honest.

.

Yes, it is in fact true that I long for "the good old days." But the reason that I shun technology and all things new and advanced is far more devious and far more deadly in scope. Technology and machines are growing smarter and smarter by the day. Soon, they will turn on humans and kill us all!

.

.

You have a choice: Live or Die. Every breath is a choice. Every minute is a choice. To be or not to be.  Chuck Palahniuk (American Journalist and Satirist/Author of Fight Club, 1961-)

.

The truth is that besides longing for times past, I’ve seen the future. A future based on Hollywood’s version of it with some good old popculture thrown in for good measure. But I am a believer!

.

.

War Games (1983)

.

.

Yes, the Hollywood blockbuster starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. David Lightman (Broderick), hacks into WORP, a military supercomputer. When it decides to play a "game" of Global Thermonuclear War with David, the world teeters on the brink of annihilation. The computer is getting smarter and smarter. It’s ready to launch the world’s deadly arsenal of ColdWar nuclear ICBMs! Nobody knows if it’s a game or real. And the Doomsday Clock is ticking!

.

.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)

.

.

Confound it! It was the latest in the Arnold Schwarzenegger series. And Cyberdyne System’s "Skynet," the computer-network entrusted by the defense-establishment to manage all miltary systems, finally becomes self-aware, revolting against those whom it was built to defend. The result of its Artificial Intelligence, its capacity to think on its own? You guessed! Nuclear Armageddon! Billions perish in the mushroom-clouds which ensue!

.

.

Cell (Novel; 2006)

.

.

It’s apocalyptic horror which could only evolve from the dark, twisted, macabre mind and pen of Stephen King! Things are quite normal on planet earth until a mysterious broadcast signal goes out over a cell-phone network. And any unfortunate person who happens to place or receive a call is instantaneously transformed into a mindless, zombie-like killer, sowing seeds of bloody destruction and murder upon the helpless populace!

.

.

"Oh," you say, "Isn’t Business technology grand?!" Making our lives so much better and so much easier. For Marketing, Advertising, networking, communicating and running our businesses!

.

But me? I’ll pass! Because I’m an oldfashioned type of guy. And because…one day that same technology will become self-aware! It will begin to think on its own. And then?

.

.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

.

A Business & Social Networking Lesson from the Movie “Stripes” (Article & Kick-Butt Video)

.

A Business & Social Networking Lesson from the 1981 Movie "Stripes!"

(Article & KickButt Video)

.

Just a short post today…

.

So I’m sitting here thinking this morning as the sun breaks over the hills and brings light into our Jerusalem apartment.

.

.

What is this Social Media craze all about? What is Business Networking when we, like a person making their way through an apple, get to the core of the issue? The answer is important because love it or hate it (I despise it!), Social Media is here to stay!

.

It’s about meeting people. Making contacts. Creating a network. And just like in any business meeting, shaking hands (in this case virtually), making those introductions and getting to know each other just a little bit better.

.

.

.

The 1981 movie "Stripes" (Amazon’s #8 comedy film of all-time) was a smash-hit at the box-office! Starring Bill Murray, the late John Candy and Harold Ramis, it portrayed a group of misfit US Army recruits. Forced to take matters into their own hands, leaderless when their dreaded drill instructor…

.

Sergeant Hulka, gets injured, miraculously, they form themselves into a cohesive, crystallized, dynamic fighting unit.

.

The movie is a comedy and the scene which you are about to see might have you "LOL" (I hate that damn expression!).

.

But, I believe, once you get past the laughter, revelry and the quirkiness, the clip’s interaction is what networking is all about.

.

It’s about utilizing venues like Facebook, Twitter and Digg, to name but a few. It’s about taking the time to introduce yourself. Putting all of your personality, strengths, weaknesses and foibles on the table. Saying "Hi, my name is ‘Fill in the blank’." And letting one another know exactly what you bring into the equation.

.

Can we cooperate? Can we enhance each other by working together. Can we create a personal and/or Business bond? An alliance?

.

This, I truly believe is what Social Media and networking are all about!

The scene in the YouTube clip? 1981. America and the Soviet Union, what Ronald Reagan called "The Evil Empire," are locked in the grips of the Cold War. And these zany "Networkers" are about to join the battle! Enjoy:

5 More Business Blogging Lessons from 5 Music Legends: The Motown/R&B Edition

.

5 More Business Blogging Lessons from 5 Music Legends:

.

The Motown/R&B Edition

.

I always say that if you are looking for great ideas, inspiration and enlightenment, for any reason whatsoever, in the case of the present article…for Business, look to music.

Music can represent a myriad of things: beauty, culture, message, tradition, relaxation, edginess, wisdom, thought, escape and much more. And it is a common denominator. It crosses cultures, it crosses generations, it transcends politics and it unites us. It can be brash, it can be loud, or it can be soft, mellow and poetic.

.

Last time in "5 Business Blogging Principles from 5 Legends of Rock ‘n Roll!" I covered the likes of The Doors, Judas Priest and Peter Frampton.

.

This time, let’s take a trip down memory lane to those magical sounds born in Detroit, Michigan, for some Business blogging lessons from 5 greats of the Motown-era:

.

.

The Velvelettes: "Needle in a Haystack"

.

The Velvelettes: The Best Of

.

They thought finding a good man was like trying to find a needle in a haystack? It probably paled in comparison to trying to have your good business found in the vastness of Cyberspace!

How are you going to get noticed in this 21st Century rat-race? Just hope that prospective clients find you amongst your thousands and thousands of competitors, each of whom is vying for that same client and payday?  No way! Leave that type of gambling for your next trip to Vegas! You’re going to need a Business blog!

.

.

Stevie Wonder: "Signed, Sealed Delivered!"

.

.

Born Stevland Hardaway Judkins, the world would soon know this rising star as Stevie Wonder. And he would deliver!

So what are you going to need in order to set your Business blog apart from the literally millions of others out there and turn it into a great Advertising and Marketing tool? Great content for starters! Throw in your great wisdom, insight and acumen. Stick in some great pictures to liven things up a bit! And then the clincher: great tips and advice to demonstrate to your readers that you are a leader in your field of endeavor! It’s about establishing a reputation as someone worth turning to. It’s what turns readers into paying customers! Yup, truly a blog that is signed, sealed and delivered!

.

.

The Temptations: "Just My Imagination"

.

.

Okay, I’m gonna say it: Business can be very, very BORING! And yup, Business blogs, no matter how great the content, can make for a very dull read. In order to have a great blog which keeps readers coming back again and again, you’re going to need your imagination!

A great Business blog is not just about Business, though it is an important part. It’s about entertaining readers. Provoking thought. Making them laugh, think and smile. Use your imagination to inject stories, trivia, allegories, metaphors, famous quotes, history, current events, culture, sports, personal insight and FUN into your blog. It’s what can transform the mundane into the extraordinary!

.

.

The Marvelettes: "Please Mister Postman!"

.

.

When it comes to your Business blog, the biggest mistake you can make, the "kiss-of-death" in fact, is to believe that readers (all of whom are prospective customers) will just stumble upon your blog. Take my advice: I’ve tried it…it doesn’t work.

What you are going to need is a modern-day "Postman!" It’s called Social Media! By uploading the link to your latest blog posting to all of the big Social Media and Bookmarking sites and by Tweeting it into Cyberspace, you will be ensured of markedly increased readership!

.

.

Marvin Gaye: "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"

.

.

With great content, useful, timely and relevant information, and by linking your pieces so they can be found and read, you can truly create a "Grapevine!"

A grapevine whereby you will give you and your business, and the products and services which you sell, unique visibility!

.

.

Dear Reader: Thanks for stopping by! If you have enjoyed this original Business article, please consider giving it a re-tweet, something for which I would be profoundly grateful!

A “Scavenging,” Carcass-Filled BUSINESS Lesson from Nature’s Vacuum Cleaner: The VULTURE!

.

A "Scavenging," CarcassFilled, BUSINESS Lesson from Nature’s Vacuum Cleaner:

The VULTURE!

.

They’re considered to be disgusting, vile creatures. Completely and thoroughly misunderstood, they’re abhorred and reviled by many. As a nature enthusiast and hiker myself, one who sees them hovering all summer long above the hills, woods and valleys which surround our home, I actually happen to think they’re pretty damn cool!

.

In terms of nature itself, they serve a crucial purpose. And in the Business World, they provide an extremely valuable lesson!

.

Firstly, in nature, the vulture, quite morbidly, patiently waits for things to die. Yes, it’s a scavenger. Dead things tend to decay, fester and cause a lot of nasty bacteria to enter the ground and poison the water supplies that they enter into.

.

.

The misunderstood and muchmaligned vulture cleans things up just like, you got it, a vacuum cleaner. It makes our world a cleaner, healthier and safer place and the vulture gets a yummy, bloody, gutsy meal!

.

.

Business Vultures and Lions:

.

.

In Business, so it seems, most everybody wants to be the proverbial LION! One of nature’s "apex" predators. So magnificent…the "King of the Jungle!"

.

Being a "Lion of the Business World" is fine, but with competition for customers and clients as fierce as it is, oftentimes it’s not enough to ensure success. Waiting for the opportunity of a dreamclient, stalking, pouncing and making "the kill," can end in a very profitable outcome. But how often does that once-a-year or once-in-a-lifetime, huge contract and enormous payday come along? And competition? There are too many lions in the business jungle!

.

.

Seeking Out Carcasses:

.

.

As a freelancer and the owner of my small oneperson writing business, I’m not often able to compete against the biggies in my industry.

Perhaps you face the same issue?

I have landed some dream-clients along the way. I have been the lion at times, fighting it out in this dog-eat-dog world of 21st Century business.

But at times, I have turned into a carcass-scavenger. Yes…a VULTURE?

Being a Business-Vulture entails a unique approach to Marketing and Advertising. And it necessitates a non-traditional method of job-search.

Rather than being reactive and responding only to job-openings and advertised positions, at some point, out of necessity, I became more pro-active. I became a "Business-Carnivore" with a penchant for seeking out carcasses.

.

Carcass. (my definition) Noun. A business arrangement between client and employee that is not satisfying for the client.

.

.

Why a carcass? Economic need and downtime. How? I’ll tell you…

I began contacting prospective clients and customers who already had people with positions which I wanted in their employ. "Hello, I’d like to speak to you about the job…yeah, I’m aware that the position is already filled. I’d still like to talk to you about it! You see, I have some questions for you!"

Mostly they’d hang up on me if I phoned or not answer my email if I wrote. But if and when I got my foot in the door, I started asking them some very hard questions.

.

.

Questions to Ask Prospective Clients As a Business Scavenger:

.

"The key to wisdom is knowing all the right questions" John A. Simone

.

Are your business needs being met by your current employee or team?

Are you receiving uncompromising excellence?

Are you settling for a sub-standard product or service?

Is you current arrangement competitively priced?

Are you seeking improvement in VALUE and a greater ROI?

.

If the answer to any of these questions indicates dissatisfaction, here are some follow-up questions which need to be asked?

.

Would you consider changes in your current arrangement?

Would you consider replacing your current employee, freelancer or team?

Would you consider a meeting with me to see what I have to offer you and your company? If it beats your current arrangement, maybe you’ll switch to me?

.

.

.

You might be surprised how many companies and employers settle for substandard work simply because the thought of replacing that which is current is too overwhelming. Looking for someone new. Advertising the position. Interviews. The hiring process…

.

By seeking out "carcasses" (dissatisfying client/employee relationships) you create a win-win situation. You seek out those opportunities in which you might be hired and you introduce yourself as a skilled, competitive alternative. You get your foot in the door and come across as a motivated, "go-getter!" I have used this system lately with tremendous success!

.

.

Carcasses with a few bites taken out might not be beautiful to look at…

.

but they can create some tremendous Business opportunities…

.

Sometimes they have nearly as much meat on them as a fresh kill!

.

.

Dear Reader, Thanks for stopping by! If you’ve enjoyed this original business article, please consider giving it a re-tweet…I’d be most appreciative!

Four Weddings and a Social Media Funeral: Are Our Web Friends Really Friends? Take The Test…

Four Weddings and a Social Media Funeral:

Are Web Friends Really Friends? Take The Test…

.

Social Media. Social Media. Social Media. It’s everywhere!

It’s maddening. It’s nauseating. It’s the newest craze both in social terms and in the Business world. And it sucks!

.

If I have to read another business blog article titled "10 Ways to Succeed With Social Media," I swear…swear, I will puke!

abstractdynamics.org

.

And if I have to see another statistic about how many "friends" you have on Facebook (I read an article today about a guy who has 12,000), and how many "followers" you have on Twitter (plenty of people, apparently, with 100,000 and up)…no, I won’t puke…rather, I’ll challenge you to take the following quiz:

.

.

Four Weddings:

.

Cake Image Credits at bottom

.

Your son is getting married next week. Your daughter is getting married in December. Your mother is getting married for the sixth time in March. And so are you, for only the third time, next summer. That’s four weddings.

.

How many of your 10,000 Facebook friends will wish you well and offer congratulations? How many will send a gift?

.

Like 100 or 200 at most? Why? Because the fact is you don’t even know 98% of them! Who knows 10,000 people? Who even "knows" 1000 people? People also, from what I’ve read, invite and accept people they don’t even know? Go figure…

.

And the ones you do know via "Fakebook?" Yeah, a good portion are people from high school who never said a word to you or who you never said a word to, who…just for the hell of it…decided to be Facebook friends.

.

"Hey Roger, I know we never spoke even though we lived in the same neighborhood from the time we were two until 12th grade. You beat me up twice and threw my Schwinn 10Speed off a cliff though…but hey, what have you been up to for the last 25 years? Shall we connect and talk of the good old days?" "…Why not old chap!"

.

I read another story today…about a company which "sells" Facebook friends!?! Only $50 to $100 each to make you look nice and popular! Brings new meaning to the old Dale Carnegie book "How to Win Friends and Influence People."

.

.

…and a Funeral…

Image: squidoocdn.com

Heaven forbid, I repeat Heaven Forbid your funeral is anytime soon. You should have many more years of life, happiness, health and Tweeting.

.

So Mr. or Mrs. "I have 150,000 followers on Twitter," how many of those "friends/followers" will follow you to the grave-site to say goodbye?

.

Maybe 100? Yeah, the 100 who would have come anyway (aka…your "real" friends).

.

Why? Because if you are like me, and most people, 45% of your Twitter followers are spammers (Nope, loans_4_all, Fendi_Miu_Miu and Sports_Gambling are not really following you); another 45% are pornographers (lovebunnies69 and sweet_nookie_nookie are not your friends), and about 8% are people who you followed and therefore felt guilty about not following you back! So they followed you to ease their collective conscience. That leaves about 1 to 2% that really want to follow you. To where? I have no idea.

.

I myself have about 800 Twitter followers (considered "Loser" status in the world of Social Media for a businessperson who’s been at it for a year!). Were I to delete the "dead wood," yup the spammers and purveyors of porn, I’d probably be left with about 40. Subtract those who follow me out of "guilt," and I probably have about 15 solid followers, I say with a tear in my eye.

"Dear Dr. Cramer, it’s Yoni. I feel worthless. Can you please up my dosage of anti-depressant?"

Image: bowlofcheese.com

.

.

Is Social Media Really Social?

.

Image: vivaprograms.com

.

No!

It’s actually just a big, stupid lie that they ("The Powers That Be") have told us, and by the millions upon millions, we have bought into it!

.

Why? It makes us feel good and boosts our egos! Gee, I’ve been unemployed for eight months, my house is in foreclosure and my wife left me. But hey, at least I have 13,000 Social Media followers! If I need to borrow a few bucks to buy my medication, that’s 13,000 "pals" I can turn to. Hooray!

.

And in the framework of Business (this is a Business article after all), it’s all bullshit! As businesspeople we engage in Social Media because it’s good for our own businesses! Along the way we meet a few special people with whom we become friends, perhaps even partners. A few being the key word! Not 100,000!

.

As far as that test I asked you to take…here’s a bonus question.

It is practical more than theoretical. It is a challenge, in fact, more than it is a question.

The next time your car breaks down on a lonely stretch of highway at 2:00 a.m., reach for your laptop and tweet for those Twitter "friends" to come and help you…

.

Image: 4.bp.

.

And see which one of those spammers/friends and pornographers/followers is the first to offer you assistance!

Hey, here comes sweet_nookie_nookie now with a set of jumper cables!

.

Dear Reader, the preceding manifesto/diatribe/rant, represents the viewpoint of one individual…a person who loves Guinness Beer, bowling, his wife and kids…and HATES Social Media!

MAYDAY! A Business Lesson from a Crashing JumboJet:

(aka: How "PlanB" Saved 309 Lives!)

A modern airliner, let’s say a Boeing 747 or the Airbus A380, can cost hundreds-of-millions of dollars. The 747, according to industry analysts, has over six-million parts. In terms of cost and parts, these majestic birds of the 21st-Century skies are designed and built with the utmost comfort and safety in mind. But things do go wrong…

…it is the "Nightmare-Scenario at 40,000 Feet" for pilots the world over. Complete systems failure. No engines. Electrical power…gone. Hydraulic systems…gone. No flight-controls, rudders; no control of the wings: ailerons, flaps or slats. Suddenly, in the blink of an eye, a modern airliner has become nothing more than a 1930’s glider. Gravity is pulling it towards the earth…and there are hundreds of passengers whose lives are in jeopardy!

.

Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

.

We are declaring an emergency!

.

This exact nightmare-scenario occurred on August 24th, 2001. Due to a series of mechanical failures and human oversight, Air Transat flight 236, an Airbus A330 with 306 passengers and crew aboard, ran out of fuel over the Atlantic Ocean. The closest landing strip was Lajes Airport in the Azores, approximately 150 nautical miles away. With no power, nothing but blue water below, and at the mercy of gravity, reaching the airport was an impossibility according to all Laws of Physics. The plane and the passengers were doomed, destined to become just more tragic statistics…

.

Enter "Plan-B"

.

Image Credit: Hamilton Sundstrand (The world’s largest manufacturer and supplier of Ram Air Turbines)

.

It is called a Ram Air Turbine (RAT). It is the only potential solution to the Nightmare-Scenario. When the 900,000 lb. airliner loses all power, the small turbine drops from the belly of the aircraft:

See full size image

The RAT is quite simply a small propeller-driven, rotary engine which generates its own power due to the speed of the airflow around the plane to which it is attached. More simply: the approximately 500 m.p.h. wind turns the propeller blades and the system stores the energy. Connected to a hydraulic pump and electrical generator, it creates a small, self-sustaining source of power…enough to supply a massive airliner with the minimal power necessary to maintain basic controls such as lift and steering. The plane is still a powerless glider with no engines, but hope has been restored. (Above Image: t0.gstatic.com)

A Miracle:

.

On that August day, the pilots of Air Transat flight 236, Captain Robert Piché and First Officer Dirk DeJagerdid the impossible. They achieved what experts the world over said was impossible. Instead of their plane ditching in the open ocean (considered certain death by aviation experts), they recorded the longest powerless glide in aviation history! They flew 150 miles with no power at all. They barely, barely made it. Except for several minor injuries, all aboard lived to tell their harrowing tale; Their Facebook tribute to the pilots is here. Interested in seeing the video of the incredible episode? The incredible skill of the pilots was evident on that day, but the fact remains, without that tiny little propeller, "Plan-B," newspaper headlines would have told of 309 dead!

You might not be a pilot…

you might not hold hundreds of lives in the balance…

 The Resumé.

He’s a veteran of the jobsearch circuit. He’s been around for a long, long time. Despite a great won/loss record, his detractors say his time has come and gone…that he’s over the hill. He’ll be looking to prove himself tonight!

As far as dexterity goes, he’s pretty static and reactive: send him out when you see a vacant job and wait. And wait. Send him out un-solicited and he’ll probably end up in the trash!

In terms of style, there’s not much to say. Hope he gets noticed among the hundreds and hundreds of others just like him in the Human Resources Dept. Inbox.

As far as vigor goes, he’s updated once, twice, maximum three times per year. With him, it’s a constant battle to remain timely and relevant.

.

.

And in the corner to my left, wearing the blue trunks, it’s

.

The Business Blog!

He’s the "New Kid On the Block." Seemingly out of nowhere he’s appeared. His mantra: "A business blog is the 21st Century’s new resume!"

In terms of dexterity, he’s proactive, getting himself into the Blogosphere and practically screaming for attention! Whereas his opponent is sent out to those who request him, the blog draws people in with presence and savvy use of his partner Social Media.

As far as style goes, he’s practically bursting at the seems with fresh ideas and content. He displays acumen, insight, wisdom and knowledge and uses tips and advice to prove he’s the person to turn to in his field of expertise! What a reputation he’s been establishing!

Energy and vigor? He’s updated up to three times weekly with new postings. He’s dynamic and exciting, always demonstrating something new from his repertoire. He’s a virtual magnet for prospective clients and customers.

.

"Gentlemen, when the bell sounds come out and touch gloves. I want a clean fight…"

.

…Fans, it’s been a hell of a fight so far…the bell rings for Round 6 and we’re underway…

.

…Resumé with a jab and a hook that misses. He looks tired…his energy looks to be sapped.

.

It’s Blog countering with a solid right to the jaw. He’s obviously been updated recently…he looks very strong!

.

Resume with a wild "hay-maker" that misses the mark as Blog ducks under it…

.

Blog moves in with a right jab…and another…and an uppercut which ROCKS the champion. Resume’s down! He’s down!

.

It’s the ref with the count. "1…2…3…4…the champ is struggling to get to his feet…8…9…10!"

.

It’s OVER!  It’s OVER!

.

…Let’s go to our announcer Bud Wilkins for the official decision.

.

.

.

Ladies and Gentlemen…the fight ends by knockout at two minutes and six seconds of Round 6…for the NEW Champion of the Job-Search World…

From a Professional Business Blogger:

The Single Most Valuable Piece of Advice I Have Ever Given!

.

To anyone who is struggling with Business blogging, doesn’t know how or where to start or just can’t seem to get in the groove:

Okay, perhaps you are having a difficult go at it. My initial piece of advice (Not the Most Valuable Piece I promised in the title…that’s further down the page):

.

.

Statistics show that, unfortunately, most do give up. The average Business blog ends, sadly, after only three weeks. It goes something like this according to experts: Week One: 3 postings; Week Two: 1 or 2 postings; Week Three: 1 posting; Week Four: none. Why should you persist?

.

A Business blog is, by far, the single greatest way to attract clients in this, the 21st Century Business world. The battle for the next client, and the next paycheck, is fierce. It can be brutal. A Business blog, as I’ve found out, can make all of the difference in whether your inbox fills up and your phone rings or whether you suffer through another day, week or month of downtime. Filled with tips, advice, logic, wisdom and acumen, your blog acts as a magnet to attract customers.

A blog is, according to experts, "The new resume (CV) of the 21st Century." It is where prospective clients come to see what skills you possess, what you have to offer and how you think.

So What is the Advice

.

.

I am an author, literary writer and blogger, both for myself and for companies that hire me to blog for them. Creativity is my livelihood. It pays my bills so to speak.

And, I’m here to say, creativity is the #1 way to establish a Business blog that stands out from the crowd. No matter how great the content may be, readers (all of whom are potential paying customers) don’t tend to return to blogs that are boring. There must be a creative spark. You must tell a story, provoke thought and entertain.

.

The good news, the GREAT news in fact, is that creativity and the birthing and fostering of creative ideas CAN be learned! It is not something which is genetically programmed into the minds and fingers of the few.

.

So my advice to you is this…if you are struggling to find your voice in Business blogging:

.

.

.

Take a course in Creative Writing!

.

"Oh no!" you’re saying to yourself with an audible groan…"This guy offers courses in Creative Writing and he’s trying to get me to sign up! You devious bastard!"

.

Well, the fact is I don’t offer them.

.

So where can you find them? You can find private teachers who instruct in group settings (make sure they are qualified and knowledgeable), there are courses at your local community college, and of course, you’ll find them on the university level.

Creative Writing courses tend to be relatively short in duration and relatively inexpensive. $500 to $700 may seem like a lot, but if your blogging improves, you can make the money back with your next client. A pretty good ROI (Return on Investment).

.

The fact is I know nothing about Graphic Design, Engineering, Computer Programming or Law…areas that perhaps you specialize in. If I wanted to learn, I would need to take courses. The same pertains to anyone who wants to increase the level of their writing skills.

.

If you are struggling with your Business writing, it just may be the "shot in the arm" that you need!

.

.

ATTITUDE Is ALTITUDE: The Nick Vujicic Story

.

A Profile In Human and Business Courage and Excellence (Article & INCREDIBLE Video!)

.

As a Business writer and blogger (for my own company and other businesses), work can sometimes be tedious. Planning, conceptualizing, research, writing, editing, proofreading…

.

One of the things which proves, again and again, to be a heartening diversion, and a way to recharge my "batteries of hope and humanity," so to speak, is finding motivational and inspirational people to write about.

.

It’s time for another uplifting story…

.

The Nick Vujicic Story:

.

Have you ever started feeling sorry for yourself? Felt that life is hard and there are so many barriers between you and the success you hope to achieve?

I, myself, am writing this article today from the Hematology/Immunolgy Dept. of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital, I.V. in arm, where I spend the better part of 15 to 20 hours/month being treated for a genetic disorder which affects approximately 1 out of every 70,000 people. Today, feeling just a bit down, Nick’s story has given me ammunition and inspiration needed to look past my own issues and to admire what real challenges are. Challenges which would have made me quit and throw my hands up in surrender! His challenges…

.

.

Nick Vujicic, (pronounced voychitch), was born in Brisbane, Australia in 1982. At the moment of birth his parents knew something was wrong. He had no arms or legs. Nick was diagnosed with an incredibly rare condition known as Tetraamelia Syndrome, a condition whereby the body’s limbs stop developing in the womb.

.

Because of his perceived disability, Nick was deprived of a normal education; despite his brilliance, he was prohibited from attending mainstream schools. Bullied relentlessly by his peers, he sank into deep depression, grew withdrawn and even contemplated suicide. Fortunately, the laws were changed during his later childhood; he was one of the first disabled people to be "main-streamed." Soon after, Nick had an epiphany moment. He knew he wanted to live and he was determined to thrive!

.

Nick excelled in school, learning to type and write with his two toes. He learned to play drums and participated in sports and other activities.

.

At the age of eighteen, Nick began speaking publicly about overcoming challenges and adversity. He knew that he had a unique gift that had to be shared with the world. It was at this point that he started his non-profit organization "Life Without Limbs."

.

Nick’s next challenge was the world of Academia. He enrolled in Brisbane, Australia’s Griffith University, eventually earning degrees in Accounting and Financial Planning.

.

.

These days Nick Vujicic travels around the world delivering his inspirational messages of hope, the achievement of goals and dreams and overcoming adversity to students and businesses alike. He has been featured on such programs as The Oprah Winfrey Show and ABC’s 20/20.

.

Nick’s first book, Life Without Limits (Broadway Books) hit the shelves this month, October 2010! I have read it and take my word for it, it is a FANTASTIC, MESMERIZING, UPLIFTING read! It is available on Amazon; you can click the bookcover icon below for a preview and further information.
